Reframing the Adoption Discourse Conference
The "Reframing the Adoption Discourse" conference at Macalaster College was held by the Adoption Policy and Reform Collaborative. "Reframing the Adoption Discourse" is the first conference of its kind to feature the adoption discourse as presented entirely by adult adoptees who are leaders in their fields. Shown are Michelle K. Johnson, MSW, and Amanda Transue-Woolston, BSW. Michelle works for the State of Minnesota as the volunteer coordinator for Minneapolis' Guardian ad Litem/Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children- CASA Program. Chestnut Health Systems
Chestnut Health Systems' supervised living program for individuals who are homeless and have mental illness/substance diagnosis held its first annual Spring Into Wellness Walk with four of the sites. It included a barbecue, outdoor games, a mile walk with plaques for first, second, and third place, team shirts, certificates for participation, and attendance prizes. NCCU Holiday Toy Drive
The undergraduate Social Work Society, the MSW social work group, the Nu Gamma Chapter of Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society, and the faculty of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) social work department in Durham, NC, held a toy drive and raised more than $700 in cash and toy donations for children in foster care placements in the area. Neitcha Thomsen (right), UGA MSW student, was the chairperson for the first NAMI Northside Atlana mental health fair in Atlanta, GA. She says, "We had over 30 exhibitors of mental health services, a luncheon, and a guest speaker from Emory School of Medicine. More than 200 people attended this free event."
